Oh baby . . .

Apple does it again. A 3G phone with GPS and cheap, cheap.

What's so great about that?

3G stands for "third generation", as in third generation cellular telephone, and is something we want because of the broader data transfer rates. Decent video transmission is possible in 3G as is the transfer of larger data files. The USA lags behind many other cell phone using countries by a year or two. Japan saw the first 3G in 2001. Italy users are about one-third 3G. The telecom crash in the USA, early 2000's, slowed our 3G adoption. The iphone is available July 11 in 22 major US markets.

Their first iphone TV ad was perfection, the new introductory ad is okay.

The Farmer's Market

Fort Worth takes second place to Dallas in few matters of concern to me. There is one establishment I would like to move 30 miles west of its current Big D location, though. The Farmers Market, established in 1941, draws farmers and their produce from around the Dallas area, and there is nothing like it anywhere in the DFW area. I have mentioned it once or twice before but it is the time of the year where a trip is, well, worth the trip. I make a tomato based pico de gallo / salsa which has an award winning flavor (in my view) when it is made with sweet, vine-ripened tomatoes. You can get any local summer fruit and vegetable at the Market, plus other groceries like farm fresh eggs, spices, flowers, and anything fresh food related. Now for peaches, I go towards Weatherford, but that's another post after summer's over.

Tenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

The Prophet Malachi
James Tissot / in watercolor / 1888

In their affliction, people will say:
“Let us know, let us strive to know the LORD;
as certain as the dawn is his coming,
and his judgment shines forth like the light of day!
He will come to us like the rain,
like spring rain that waters the earth.”
What can I do with you, Ephraim?
What can I do with you, Judah?
Your piety is like a morning cloud,
like the dew that early passes away.
For this reason I smote them through the prophets,
I slew them by the words of my mouth;
for it is love that I desire, not sacrifice,
and knowledge of God rather than holocausts.
