Fuzzy's Taco's. Can't say I'm on board . . .

You have to be careful when you pick on a city-wide favorite restaurant. So, I'll be gentle, but . ..

I visited Fuzzy's/TCU today for the first time in probably 5 years. They have expanded since my last visit and I like the additional space, and I like the atmospherics.

But the shredded beef tacos aren't anything to get that excited about. $5.50 for two tacos with beans and rice is okay, but a few chips and non-Mexican salsa for $2.00? Add a small drink and the bill was $10.25. I could deal with the price if the meal was great, but it wasn't. And the worst part for me was that the flour tortillas, though fresh, were cool to the touch.

We were getting a late lunch, about 1:30 pm, and the place was full, so I tip my hat to their business savvy, but like I say, I just don't get the food.

Somebody help me out here . . .

Don't order the fish tacos unless you want to regret it for hours afterward. Awful, just awful.

I don't get it either! The food is mediocre at best. And my brother insists that there is a euphamism in the name that I don't want to understand.

I like their food just fine; what gets to me is how noisy the place is. I must be gettin' old.

Unlike a previous poster, I've had only good experiences with the fish tacos, at least the tempura ones. Also, rice and beans are a waste. Get your tacos a la carte, drink water and skip the chips.

I'm with Scott on the beans and rice. I love the shredded beef. Did you try the Chili Pepper sauce they have on the tables? I didn't really become a convert until I did. I feel like the taco's are stuffed and have a lot of flavor.

Josephus -- regardless of anything else you win the best commenter name of the year award.

Jenn -- I should have gone to Cousin's. :)

Doo == if your old I'm way older.

Scott -- not a big fish lover.

BeccaK -- I agree. I thought the beef itself was tasty. I didn't try the bottled sauce. Maybe I should try it w/o beans and rice and chips and ask to warm the tortillas. I thought the salsa with the chips was awful. Thanks.

I enjoy it. Cheap and good. Will it change your life? No. Is it fun and easy? Sure.

I'll chime in here...

I totally agree about the chips and salsa, but their queso is good.

I don't think I ever stray from a 2 taco plate (usually fish) with rice and potatoes...

Then I pour massive quantities of the pepper sauce onto the rice and potatoes... It's really flavorfull (with some heat)...

I'll take some Fuzzy's right now...

I get that Jake, and many people have commented to me off-line that the fish tacos are what they are known for and what they go in for.

Michael -- I can't say I go to a taco place expecting a life changing experience.

Unless the cilantro is really an herb usually smoked.

Fine fine fine! I'll give the tacos one more try. :)

We go to the W'ford location every once in a while when I don't feel like cooking and we want a somewhat healthy option for dinner. It's not fabulous by any means, but I would say some nights it can be really good, and bad nights it's mediocre. We haven't tried many things other than the guacamole, queso, shredded beef and fish tacos. Chips are totally a rip off, and I'm with you, that's not salsa. We tend to specify corn tortillas rather than flour when they are not known to be fresh to mitigate disappointment.

As a Fuzzy's enthusiast, my suggestions:

1. Pork tacos, by far the best. Crawfish tacos are a VERY close second.
2. If not a taco fan, go for the Big Salads. Lots of flavor and very filling. Choose your meat and enjoy.
3. Nachos = fantastic.
4. Cheap beer that is really cold, good tacos that are cheap. Quick service and no need to tip anyone. That's why it works.

Cheers!

I think Fuzzy's depends on location. My boyfriend started as a cashier/cook at Berry Street and worked himself up to Race Street then Arlington and now Southlake as a General Manager. Although I'm biased, any place that he is, the food will be great. He has the Fuzzy's recipes and production down. Although I was a TCU grad, I prefer Arlington/Southlake over Berry St. any day. My favorites: veggie tacos, black beans, breakfast sandwich.

Always good to hear from you, Callie. I think the majority opinion for Berry Street was -- try the fish tacos. I'm not a big fish person but I am going to return for the beef tacos.

I thought I had read that your boyfriend was managing a store and I have no doubt that it is very good.
