Sweet Sammies

I am working my way through the various West 7th shops and restaurants.

I have been to Paciugo. How can you not like gelato? And I have been to Yofe, Fresh Fruit & Yogurt Cafe. I liked it as well, but it is not my preference for a dessert treat.

And then Friday night we went to Sweet Sammies, which of the three will most likely be my diet downfall for the simple reason that I love ice cream and cookies -- and that I can resist anything but temptation.

Sweet Sammies is ice cream. Blue Bell ice cream. Sweet Sammies is cookies. Made at the shop daily. These two components make an ice cream sandwich that is very good AND, at least for now, costs only $1.75. If you don't want an ice cream sandwich Sweet Sammies serves a single scoop of ice cream for a buck.

Bailey's Prime Rib is next on the agenda, but I think that will cost me more than $1.75.

Have you been to Tillman's yet? I went with my girlfriends a couple of months ago and I liked it but the other two were kind of lukewarm. I love the warm peanuts, dislike truffle oil so no go on the popcorn for me, then for dessert we had !homemade! marshmallows you could melt at the table with a little camper thingy. I dug it, like I said, my pals were sort of "eh."

I think I'm going to go Bailey's, Tillmans, and throw in a Fireside Pies when they open. I have read reviews of Tillman's.

Josie, It really is a good deal and the people there are very helpful.

Sunni I meant to say that I had read MIXED reviews of Tillmas's.

R&R -- agreed. Blue Bell is good. I do like Braum's as well.

My son told me today that he went to Sweet Sammies to buy cookies for his kids.He was disappointed and kind of suggested to me that I was wrong about Sweet Sammies. Actually, I agree with him. The cookies part of the ice cream sandwich is a little weak.

Oh I couldn't disagree more! Their cookies are the best part! You can get ice cream anywhere. Sure it's Blue Bell and even Blue Bell doesn't sell their ice cream this cheap! But it's the cookies that make it the best dessert place in the metroplex! And who can even compete with the price let alone beat it! Two huge thumbe up from me for Sweet Sammies AND their cookies!

Well WC many people agree with you. I think cookie lovers are divided into preferences for crispy and soft. I'm a crispy exterior soft, chewy interior guy. The Sweet Sammie cookie is soft, which is my primary complaint. I wouldn't buy the cookies by themselves, but that is just my opinion. I loved the combination, though and will return often.
