The Yucatan Taco Stand.

Guest post by Elizabeth

The Yucatan Taco Stand is on Magnolia where the BJ Keefers used to be. What a transformation! It reminds me of a Mexican restaurant version of Pei Wei, in that you walk in, order, and your food is brought to you.

The atmosphere is dark but pleasant. There's a nice mix of tables, booths and patio seating.

The food is reasonably priced and I really enjoy the fajitas. I think they use a lot of lime and citrus flavoring in the dishes which I happen to enjoy. They have a full bar and at night and live music. I guess I'm getting old because if I get to go out without children and have adult conversation, I don't really like to compete with the music. I'm sure the music is more of a weekend thing and it fits as there was a good showing of the TCU crowd when I visited. I love sitting outside on the patio.

Visually, the food is plated in attractive and interesting ways. The fajitas are served on a long narrow platter with all the sides displayed nicely.

My only complaint is that it is dark and somewhat hard to see your food. I definitely want to try it at lunch soon.

Each time I've been the place was packed. This is going to become one of my favorite cheap date night dinner places.

Yucatan has a lot of bang for the buck.

Their website has the full menu and a few pics of the restaurant:

The only complaint I have is the ordering line. I have been a few times now and had to wait at least 30 to 45 minutes every time. They already have waitresses who bring you your food, why cant they just take your order too? I hope they will move to that and I will frequent the Yucatan more often because the food is great.

I have no complaints. Been there thrice; loved it every time. Good atmosphere, great food; best if one dines out on the patio.

So long, Mexican Inn, thou villainous usurper of my family's appetite!

while the venue is nice, i really don't dig the food. it's just so run of the mill and the tacos are overflowing with extra stuff to cover for it. i feel like the tacos have more chopped iceberg lettuce and random crap than actual meat.

the nachos were huge also and not in a good way. who eats that much?

if i go, i go for the margaritas.

Not to be a naysayer, but I wasn't a big fan of this place. I thought it was pricey for a restaurant with no table service, and I was annoyed to have to get up out of the crowded booth, wind my way thru all the tables and go to the bar to get another beer. They do have random waitresses going around getting drinks sporadically, but it's hard to flag them down. My fish tacos were dry and boring. I was sad; I had high hopes. The best order of the night in our group was my friend who got the vegetable fajitas- they looked great. I might go again and order that at a time when they're not crazy busy (NOISY). The queso was good too. I guess Pei Wei gets away with it b/c it's still fairly cheap. But this place has some entrees in the $15-20 range. Again, not to be a party pooper, just thought I'd offer a different opinion.

I haven't been Sunni -- I do know that I don't like to pay top dollar for average food. I'll be visiting there in a few weeks, I hope.

Also -- I hate getting up and down all the time unless you are somewhere like Central Market.

Lizzie -- you know I love ya -- but Yucatan is not my idea of good or even acceptable Mexican food. As a bar, maybe, but not as a restaurant. My post to come.
