The Progressive Car Insurance Commercials.

Has anyone else had about enough of the wacky, red-lipstick sales-girl, and the whole dreamworld Progressive store ad concept?

Or is it just me?
..

OMG, they're the most annoying commercials EVAR!

Seriously. Annoying.

The new Geico ones are weird, but funny in a creepy way. ("That's the money you could be saving with Geico.")

I don't care for the new Geico ads with the wad of dollar bills with eyes. Too bizarro for me.

The new Geico ads are an improvement over the old man evesdropping on the lizard.

I don't mind the Progressive ads, but don't like them either. I'm not running out an dumping my insurance carrier for them.

Rambler -- agree there. They're bad. At least the old man is a bad component. The little Gecko jumping off the outbound train is has an appeal to it, though.

Not a clue. I haven't watched TV since before I moved to FW. LittleBit was going to hook up the DVD player and VHR tonight, but we had so much fun talking w/her new BF that both of us forgot.

I should have been more clear. I do like the lizard with his accent (Aussie? English? I can't think right now), but the old man was a pain.

I had just posted this and the new Progressive ad on "discounts" came on the television. Yes, it is silly. But here we are talking about it, which is the purpose of ad.

In the early 60s, a car dealer in Dallas used to do ads, screaming "I WANT TO SELL YOU A CAR!". Everyone hated him, but everyone knew him and his lot grew and grew. Obnoxious works.

Jake -- I think it is a age thing.

Rambler -- I am another who considers the TV ads to be better than most shows. Marshall McCluhan said they were the only American art form, though I think he was being sarcastic.
And you do have the two issues, that is, the artistic and the "what gets results" and annoying can get good results. In my view Apple reigns head and shoulders above the rest because it sells the prodoct through interesting to watch demonstration-- but then again, couldn't anyone market the iphone, et.al?
Microsoft seldom has a good ad, nor does IBM or Dell. I like the HP ads with the "headless" demonstrator BUT it doesn't say HP enough.

I thought the "I'm a PC" ad was a cute riff off the Mac ads and the Vista ads (excuse me... Mojave) had their flair, until you realized... VISTA!

Rambler -- I had forgotten about the "I'm a PC" ad. I liked it, too. Most importantly for Microsoft, it stemmed the tide of the very successful Apple ad of the same name. I think I read the campaign costs were 30 million which just shows that they must have considered the Apple ad to be hurting them. One of Microsoft few successes in advertising since the the Windows version that had the theme song of the Rolling Stones song, "Start me Up"

Fascinating stuff to me.

BTW -- did you read? $100,000 per second for Superbowl ads.

'cause I HAAATE those Progressive Car Insurance commercials!

And yes, the anthropomorphic money of Geico is pretty strange and disconcerting too...
