It Won't Be Long Now . . .

This will have been the longest I have been away from Fort Worth since 1982. About 9 months. My first order of business is to take the grandchildren, all of them old enough to sit in a carseat, to McDonalds for pancakes and Jungle Gyms. Yes, this is a punishment I will submit to willingly.

After that adventure I'll need a cup of coffee from Starbucks on University. Isn't the new Apple store near the Starbucks? With the iMac's? I want one, 21 inch.

I know we'll visit Mi Cocina's once or twice, and Charlies, and maybe even a visit to Grace. I will need a couple of tacos from street vendors and a barbecue sandwich from Railhead. Central Market will be checked on almost every day for a couple weeks. I want to put my finger on that pulse.

I'll do a little fake singing in the choir at St Mary's, and after that drive down Magnolia and into downtown, past the Omni construction, then Uptown and 7th Street. I'll be tempted to stop by Kinkaid's on the way.

And during these vehicular excursions I will be listening to the Ticket, sans Greggo and maybe a little tired, but still the best radio listening in America.

What am I missing? I need a new mom and pop real food restaurant to visit. Any suggestions?

You're missing a coffee with Becca and I at Eurotazza down Camp Bowie...

As far as new mom and pop shops, not sure I know of any that you don't know about already...

Though I do have inside connections to a new restaurant called M that will open on University. He's having a wine tasting with Gary V (http://garyvaynerchuk.com/)...

Absolutely, Jake. I'll call or email when the time gets closer.

I have to say I was disappointed with Railhead last time I went. The meat was a little dry and the sides tasted like they came from a bucket. I think you should move Angelos into #1 position for Bar-b-que.

Okay -- I like it -- I will investigate when I arrive.

One more thing, I went to both Tommy's and Kincaid's this week and Tommy's is better in my opinion. The Junkyard burger is out of this world and they make their own fries. The corn nuggets and potato chips are great too. Kincaids' burger was good but not as succulent and the fries were the frozen crinkle kind-not very good.

Funny you mention the Junkyard burger... just had one yesterday for lunch!!

I love the burgers at Kincaids but I wish they had more topping selections at Kincaids.

Though was watching the Food network yesterday (which triggered the lunch craving) and in Amarillo they have a "Burger from Hell"... jalepenos, cayenne pepper sauce, habanero sauce, and cheese...

"Eastside" Becca (so Jake doesn't get confused, hereafter I will refer to his fiancee as "Westside" Becca, or maybe just "Westside")--

As you well know I am the original Tommy's enthusiast -- the old 7th St and the old Sundance. I went once or twice to Camp Bowie and had bad odor vibes and mouth breathing attendants that threw me off.

Nevertheless, I will try again when you tell me which Tommy's you visited. I found some difference between them. And yes hands down the fries are better.

Kinkaids has the "ambience" I like.

I have never had the Junkyard burger but will try it and, like Jake, I love jalapenos on burgers.
