First Sunday of Advent.

Flight into Egypt
Caravaggio
1595
Galleria Doria Pamphilj, Rome

From the Book of the prophet Isaiah
You, LORD, are our father,
our redeemer you are named forever.
Why do you let us wander, O LORD, from your ways,
and harden our hearts so that we fear you not?
Advent is the beginning of the Christian calendar for the Western Church. It starts four Sundays before Christmas Day, so the first Sunday of Advent is not a fixed date. The word Advent is from the Latin adventus and means coming and commemorates the coming of the Messiah and the parousia or the Second Coming of the Messiah.

Fall is my favorite earthly season, but this is my favorite time of year: the music, the traditions, the kindnesses we share, all pointing our hearts and minds to Heaven and to the best Gift we've been given.

We share our building with another ward, and I cannot *wait* to get there this afternoon and to sing the Christmas hymns that I love!
