Thanks for the sandwich advice and ....

An all new "Best Of" soon to come. First the sandwich: Carshon's. It's good. I had the Rebecca in honor of my favorite daughter. It was good to very good. I'm not going to make any suggestions to what could be better because they are personal preferences that I will ask the waitress about next time I go . . . which will be soon. Thanks to the half-dozen readers who suggested Carshon's. By the way, the chocolate pie was as good as the sandwich.

As to the "Best Of" . . . there was a time when if I was asked about a restaurant in the DFW area I could probably say I had been there -- at least once. Not anymore. First, I don't have the opportunity and second there are just too many. Restaurants, like anything else are dynamic enterprises. What was good yesterday may be bad today. I have some places on my list that will be removed and I will be adding some new places, and there are places I don't even know about in the Greater Fort Worth area (I don't visit Dallas much anymore). All suggestions are being taken but nothing will go on the list without being visited by someone from the F&FW staff.

Thanks for the suggestions, so far.

Francis, glad to hear you've finally discovered Carshons. In my humble opinion, it is one of FW best restaurant treasures.

It you catch the right day, go with a friend, one of you get the chocolate pie, one get the lemon, the share the two. It's an interesting taste, thought I still prefer the strawberry delight. My only complaint about Carshon's is they discontinued the potato knish. Well, it would be nice if they took plastic, too.

Another recommendation: Old Neighborhood Grill, on Park Place just off 8th Avenue. Excellent burger and a good BLT. The plates are also good, although I usually have a sandwich.

Anon -- I have forgotten about the Old Neighborhood Grill. Good place, indeed. I'll try the strawberry delight next time, and if I have to order the lemon pie and chocolate pie myself and just eat half, I will. Thanks.

Spanglo -- I loved Carshon's but I have to say that I haven't had greased and grilled bread in a long time. Ciao.

An interesting thing happened at Old Neighborhood Grill last night. I took a friend there and ordered my usual burger & fries (my friend had a steak, which he said was excellent). Any way, a few minutes after serving us, the waiter came over with a basket of fresh hot fries. Apparently, the cook felt I didn't get enough, or the ones I got weren't fresh enough or something. I'm not sure I'ver ever had that happen before.
